It was a warm day, but a highly rewarding one for Henderson County at the 4-H West District Target Shooting Sports Tournament Saturday, August 10. Held at Polk County Gun Club, Henderson County 4-H had twenty-three youth participants compete for their chance to qualify for the State 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament, held in Ellerbe, NC!

The day begins with quiet expectations and nerves at the archery line for our returning and new shooters alike. The Young Naturalist 4-H club has had members practicing their disciplines since early Spring in preparation for the District, and hopefully, State Tournaments. The club offers coaching and practice in five different disciplines: shotgun, small bore rifle, compound and re-curve archery, and air rifle. Some of the members shoot all five disciplines. However, the bulk of the Young Naturalist youth kept their talents in archery and 22 rifle this past year.

Henderson County would also like to thank all volunteers who donated their time and efforts to set-up, score, run rifle and shotgun ranges, and break-down after the events finished.

The day may have begun quiet, but that quickly passed as the shooters moved onto the rifle range, air rifle range, and ended with a bang at the shotgun range! All twenty-three Young Naturalist 4-H’ers qualified in at least one discipline and will be representing Henderson County at the 4-H State Shooting Tournament in September.

As well, Henderson County had top ranking team and individual overall scores for the day! The final overall results are as follows.
