Collapse ▲The impact of Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina is devastating, particularly for farmers. Many have lost homes, barns, fencing, equipment, livestock, and pastures, while hay supplies have been destroyed.
In response, our state has come together to help. Numerous counties are sending hay, feed, fencing, and other supplies for agricultural needs, alongside donations for home use.
The Alexander County Cattlemen’s Association in particular have rallied together, collecting supplies to make a significant contribution, providing four trailers of hay and truckloads of supplies. On Friday, October 4th, they also helped the Avery County Extension Office, and various agents from surrounding counties, organize efforts to collect additional donations from helicopters, fellow cattlemen’s organizations, and generous neighbors.
We deeply appreciate the support for WNC farmers and residents. For those considering future donations, please refer to the following needs:
**Avery County Distribution Center** (6880 Linville Falls Hwy – Newland, NC)
