Mad Scientist: June 12th-13th
Time: 9am – 2pm Ages: 5-8 years old Cost: $30 Ever wonder why bread rises? Or how crystals are formed? Want to know why some things float and others sink? Using everyday materials that we can find around the house and in the kitchen, Mad Scientist Camp helps you explore some wild science experiments and understand why this happens. Learning through science experiments is a great way to help promote thinking and understanding rather than just memorization. Bring out your mad scientist side with this fun filled camp opportunity as we practice our aged old 4-H motto of “learn by doing” Limited to 10 youth.
STEM Days: June 14th-15th
Time: 9am-2pm Ages: 9-12 years old Cost: $40 Come participate in several STEM activities. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM activities provide hands-on and minds-on lessons for the student. Making math and science fun and interesting helps the student to do much more than just learn. Activities will include making rockets, slime, Bristlebots, and more. Limited to 10 youth.
Snack Attack: June 20th-22nd
Time: 9am-2pm Ages: 5-8 years old Cost $30What better way to satisfy your young reader's curiosity than combining food and literature? Cooking can help our young cloverbuds learn about math, science, art, and so much more. Combining food snacks with one of their favorite books reinforce the importance of reading all the while developing lasting life skills. Our young participants will be able to enjoy several stories focusing on foods and will conclude each story by making their own snacks from the story. Join us as we navigate the literature world and bring these tasty snacks to life. Limited to 12 youth
Kids in the Kitchen-Chopped: June 27th-29th
Time: 9am- 3pm Ages: 9-14 years old Cost: $60Skills:

Objectives: Participants will be trained the first two days on culinary skills to prepare them for the “chopped” competition on the last day. Like Chopped Shows, participants will compete in teams of 4 for three rounds-no elimination. Each round will have a mystery basket with items that must be incorporated into their dish. Each dish is judged on appearance, taste, and creativity. Participants have access to items in the pantry list and the equipment available. Participants must plan and prepare a dish with basket items, and finish cleaning up their station within the allotted time.Limited to 8 youth
Intro to Sewing Camp: July 10th-12th
Time: 9am-12pm Ages: 8 and up Cost: $25Learn the basics of sewing, such as threading a sewing machine and using a sewing machine. No sewing experience needed. If you own a sewing machine, please make plans to bring it. Limited 10 youth
Lazy 5 Ranch Excursion: July 13th
Time: 9am-4pm Ages: 5-8 years old Cost: $25Travel with us to Lazy 5 Ranch in Mooresville, NC. Enjoy a wagon ride where you will be able to get up close and feed the animals. Participants will need to bring a bag lunch. Snack will be provided. Limited to 8 youth
Farm to Fork: July 17th-20th
Time: 9am-3pm Ages: 9-14 years old Cost: $70 Learn how food goes from the farm to your table. Participants will visit local farms daily and bring back what they picked to learn how to prepare it. Participants must bring a bag lunch and drink daily. Limited to 10 youth.
Grilling 101-BBQ Boot Camp:July 26th-27th
Time: 9am–2pm Ages: 9-14 years old Cost: $60
As a North Carolina Cooperative Extension Program, BBQ Bootcamp is an evidence-based, interactive youth program designed to promote food science, food safety, meat science, and food preparation in a way to make your youth confident about practicing these skills.
Extension employees and volunteers will use hands-on activities and group facilitated learning to teach youth about the science behind meat preparation, in a fun and memorable way. Youth will learn about retail cuts of beef and how to prepare them, how to prevent food borne illness, grilling safety, proper cooking temperature and using a food thermometer, proper hand washing and so much more. Limited to 6 youthDiscovery Days 4-H Camp: July 31st-Aug. 3rd
Time: 9am-4pm Ages: 9-14 years old Cost: $100 Come join in the fun of 4 days of discovery. Each day participants will enjoy an education and recreational activity, and transportation will be provided from the N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center. Participants must bring bag lunch and drink. Limited to 10 youth

4-H20: August 7th-11th
(August 7-8, 9am-3pm) (August 9-11 arrive at 9am on August 9 for overnight returning by 3 p.m. on Friday)
Ages: 10-14 years old Cost: $115
Participants of this camp will learn about water and the animals that live inside of its ecosystem. You will get wet! We will work with a NCWRC Biologist to conduct surveys including electrofishing and macro invertebrate I.D. We will also enjoy a white-water rafting trip down the French Broad River and a 2-night camping trip. Transportation will be provided, and participants must bring a lunch Monday - Wednesday. Food for overnight portion will be covered. Limited to 10 participants
Each participant will have to enroll in 4-H Online to participate in the Summer Opportunities. This will not be optional.

A 50% deposit is required at registration to hold the space. If you must cancel a refund can, be given if the space is filled. Payment is accepted by cash or check (made payable to Alexander County).
