Beginning Beekeepers Course

If you have ever been interested in taking up beekeeping, here’s your chance! On February 27, 2020, and March 12, 2020, there will be a short 2 class beginning beekeepers series taught at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Alexander County Center located at 151 Main Avenue Drive, Taylorsville, NC. This will be from 6:30–8:30 p.m. each of those evening, then a hands-on class and cookout will be held on a Saturday in April. There is NO cost for the class, but there is a strong recommendation to buy the book, “First Lessons in Beekeeping,” which will be available at the class for approximately $10.

Topics to be covered in the class include:

  • basic beekeeping equipment
  • installing bees
  • harvesting honey
  • much, much more

If starting out new, to buy a beginner’s kit, hive body, equipment, and bees, total cost usually runs around $300. Also, at the end of the class a mentor will be assigned to each graduating beginning beekeeper to assist them in their start-up efforts if so desired.

To sign up for the class please call or the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Alexander County Center at 828-632-4451 to provide your information. We look forward to training a new group of beekeepers, so register soon!
